From Neural Networks to Deep Learning

The idea of artificial neural networks has existed since the 1950s, but it wasn't until the 2010s, with the explosion of big data and powerful GPUs, that Deep Learning truly took off. AlexNet (2012) marked a turning point by dominating the ImageNet competition, opening a new era for computer vision.

Key Architectures

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) specialize in image data processing. From ResNet to EfficientNet, architectures have become deeper and more efficient, achieving superhuman accuracy in many recognition tasks.

Transformer is a revolutionary architecture born in 2017, the foundation of modern large language models. The attention mechanism allows models to process in parallel and capture long-range relationships in data.

Generative AI includes GANs, VAEs, and Diffusion Models, enabling creation of high-quality images, text, and music. This is currently the fastest-growing area of AI.

Challenges and Future Directions

Deep Learning still faces many challenges: large data requirements, high computational costs, and the "black box" problem in decision explanation. Current research focuses on Efficient AI, Few-shot Learning, and Explainable AI.
